October 2024 at Oyster Bay Yoga

Grounding

Dear Yogis,

Happy October! This month, let’s let our practice be a reflection of the season. Moving into the fall, and into Vata season, we’re offering some options to slow down, to ground, and to settle into a new way of practicing that nourishes our bodies and minds this time of year.

All the best,
Amy

Pose of the Month

Malasana: Garland Pose

This month at the studio we breakdown
Malasana: Garland Pose.
Learn how best to practice this pose in any class all month long!

Sutra of the Month

Sutra 1.34 from Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras focuses on calming the mind through breath control. It suggests that by regulating the breath—specifically through exhalation and breath retention—the mind can achieve a state of steadiness and tranquility. This practice helps reduce mental agitation, bringing clarity and focus, and is a foundational technique in achieving inner peace and balance.

Oil of the Month

Our October OOTM is:

Ginger Root Oil

“With a spicy and warming aroma, Ginger Root CO2 can be the ultimate remedy for many issues. Topically, this essential oil can be useful to help improve circulation as well as provide relief in muscle aches and pain. When dealing with nausea and motion sickness, Ginger Root CO2 to the rescue! Simply inhale the aroma or dilute in a carrier oil and massage onto the stomach for relief. For ladies dealing with menstrual discomfort, this can be your go-to. Its stimulating properties can be greatly beneficial if you experience any discomfort brought on by daily tasks and routines.” -Plant Therapy

Enjoy 20% off your purchase of Ginger Root essential oil all month at the studio.

Yin Yoga

Friday, November 22nd
6:00-7:15pm
with Martha Flanagan

Are you moving too fast?
Doing too many things at one time?
Too much "mind chatter" or just want to slow down?

Yin yoga can provide an antidote for this.

This class will guide you through a series of poses that are primarily done sitting and lying down. The poses are held for 2-5 minutes at a time to allow connective tissues (fascia, ligaments) to soften, lengthen and lubricate. A yin yoga practice compliments a yang practice and allows for a more balanced approach to life.
