September 2022 at Oyster Bay Yoga

Intention

Dear Oyster Bay Yogis,

Happy September! Tis’ the season to REFOCUS. As we kiss summer goodbye, what do we want to cultivate? What are our hopes for the fall, and beyond? What’s been missing from your routine? How can your practice serve you better? How can WE help you create more of what you want in your life? I’m all ears :) Myself and the other instructors will be prompting you to set an intention for your practice, your month, your life. Sometimes, we never get where we want to go, because we get stuck in the cycle of reacting to our lives, without thoughtfulness, planning, or any flexibility! Let’s break that cycle together.

See you on the mat!

Amy

Pose of the Month

Balasana: Child’s Pose

Sutra of the Month

Patanjali teaches that yoga practice is preventive medicine for our minds—a way to keep future pain and suffering from manifesting. He reminds us that past pain doesn’t exist anymore, current pain is in process and will run its course, and future pain can be diminished or avoided altogether by committing to the yogic lifestyle.

Oil of the Month

Our September OOTM is:

Ho Wood

“Ho Wood Oil is steam distilled from the bark and wood of the ho tree. This oil is extremely high in calming linalool and is excellent for promoting a peaceful and relaxing environment. Ho Wood has a woody, floral, and camphorous scent. Its aroma and properties are very similar to Rosewood Oil, which as a threatened species, should be avoided. The camphor content in Ho Wood Oil results in a cooling feeling when used topically.”

Yin Yoga

Friday, September 30th

7:00-8:15pm

at Oyster Bay Yoga

Are you moving too fast?
Doing too many things at one time?
Too much "mind chatter" or just want to slow down?

Yin yoga can provide an antidote for this.
This class will guide you through a series of poses that are primarily done sitting and lying down. The poses are held for 2-5 minutes at a time to allow connective tissues (fascia, ligaments) to soften, lengthen and lubricate. A yin yoga practice compliments a yang practice and allows for a more balanced approach to life.

at Glen Cove Yoga

Have you always wanted to try yoga, but are too nervous to try a group class? Have you put on some extra weight during COVID, and haven’t settled back into some of the healthy habits you had before? Are you getting older, and starting to notice you’re not as limber as you used to be? Have you told yourself you need to “get in shape” BEFORE you get to that yoga class you’ve been wanting to take?

I’m Amy, the owner of Oyster Bay & Glen Cove Yoga. I’ve been teaching yoga for 11 years, and practicing for 17. I can tell you that yoga has been a lifeline for me through the ups and downs of life. And the 1000s of students I’ve worked with at the studios over the past 6 years are ready to welcome you into our non-competitive, judgement-free space.

In this 4 week series, we’ll start from the very beginning. We’l learn the history of yoga, and we’ll translate it’s ancient roots into a practical, modern day practice that works for EVERY BODY. We’ll learn and practice all of the basic yoga postures and breathing techniques, and we’ll adjust the postures to fit our bodies, not the other way around so that the practice can help you be the best physical, mental & emotional version of yourself.

As we move through each class together, we’ll work to get you feeling comfortable and ready to practice yoga in a group class, or even on your own at home. You’ll leave this program feeling stronger, more flexible, and less stressed than when you started. Guaranteed! Plus, as a participant in our Beginning Yoga series, you’ll get access to unlimited in-studio classes throughout the program, plus access to our online beginning yoga program, so you can take what you’ve learned home with you.
