April 2025 at Oyster Bay Yoga

Self Care

Dear Yogis,

Happy April! This month, take a moment to ask yourself, “How can I truly care for myself?” Imagine seeing yourself through the eyes of a dear friend—someone who loves you unconditionally. What would they wish for you?

Self-care isn’t just about rest; it’s about showing up for yourself with kindness and intention. This season, let your yoga practice be an act of self-care—time set aside just for you. As you step onto your mat, listen to what your body and heart need. Each breath, each movement, is a gift of renewal. The more you embrace yoga as self-care, the more nourishing and fulfilling your practice will become.

Give yourself that gift. You deserve it.

All the best,
Amy

Pose of the Month

Ardha Matsyendrasana: Half Lord of the Fishes.

This month at the studio we breakdown
Ardha Matsyendrasana: Half Lord of the Fishes.
Learn how best to practice this pose in any class all month long!

Sutra of the Month

This sutra reminds us of the heart of yoga: when the mind becomes still and free from distractions, we return to our true essence. In our daily lives, our thoughts, emotions, and external influences often cloud our perception of who we truly are. But through yoga and meditation, we learn to quiet the fluctuations of the mind (as mentioned in Sutra 1.2) and reconnect with our inner self—calm, clear, and unshaken. Each time you step onto your mat, consider it an opportunity to move beyond the noise and settle into your true nature.

Introduction to Qigong

Friday, April 4th
7:00-8:30pm
with Ashley Baldwin

Qigong is an ancient practice that invites us to reconnect with our body's natural energy, or Qi, through mindful movement and breath. This practice helps us cultivate a deeper sense of presence, grounding us in the body while supporting the flow of energy throughout. As we explore Qigong, we become more attuned to our body's rhythms, creating a space to improve overall well-being and balance.

In this workshop, we will focus on simple yet powerful Qigong movements and breathing exercises designed to enhance body awareness and physical confidence. Along the way, we will gently explore our habitual body and mind patterns, uncovering how they can impact our daily physical comforts. With patience and playfulness, students will be guided to experience the flow of Qi within, discovering how it can bring alignment and ease to both body and mind.

This workshop is suitable for all levels - complete beginners are welcome!

Space is limited for this event, please sign up in advance.
Tickets to this event are non-refundable, non-transferable to other events.

Yin Yoga

Friday, April 11th
7:00-8:15pm
with Martha Flanagan

Are you moving too fast?
Doing too many things at one time?
Too much "mind chatter" or just want to slow down?

Yin yoga can provide an antidote for this.

This class will guide you through a series of poses that are primarily done sitting and lying down. The poses are held for 2-5 minutes at a time to allow connective tissues (fascia, ligaments) to soften, lengthen and lubricate. A yin yoga practice compliments a yang practice and allows for a more balanced approach to life.

Women’s Circle

Sunday, April 13th
2:00-4:00pm
with Kaitlyn Pawlukojc

“Yoga helps us to remove all obstructing (mental) clouds, so that we may come to enjoy the sunshine within.  It is an extensive program of reeducation through which we learn, step by step, to live the light of our true nature.  Only when we have truly found ourselves will we be able to live in peace, harmony, and happiness in the world.” - Georg Feuerstein

Consider deepening your personal practice by engaging yoga as a way of life.  Every second Sunday from 2-4pm, we gather to create sacred community by grounding in our breath, gently moving our bodies, settling into our hearts, and listening for our inner knowing.  This experience of mindful inquiry encourages you to show up for yourself and one another as we explore the spiritual in every day life.  Your level of participation is up to you as we honor the Light and Love within and among us all.

Registration is required to attend. This event is FREE.
We gratefully welcome donations to help sustain and grow the Women's Circle, ensuring it remains an ongoing space for connection and healing.
